January 26, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A traditional craft from Eastern Europe, fan birds have long been thought to protect the home and bring happiness and health to those in it. They are often given as gifts, and are especially popular at weddings, christenings, and at Christmas. Join Ty Thornock, a green woodworker from Persia, Iowa, for a day-long course to learn the basics of knife skills and woodcarving using locally-sourced wood (mostly fallen branches and trees that are removed). Weather permitting, the course will be held in the Lithuanian Sculpture Garden, a fantastic, natural setting.
