In this session, learn about a magical yellow dye that probably already grows in your garden at home, the marigold, or other plants from the genus Tagetes. Participants will learn the basics of using yellow dyes, build a dye bath together, and soak fabrics to produce a range of golds, yellows, and oranges. All supplies are provided. July 21, 2019 from 2 to 4 p.m. Come learn about the fascinating world of natural fabric dyes and quilted fabric techniques. Classes from June-November may be taken individually or as a series. Indigofera tinctorum is an illustrious blue dye that is used all over the world. In this class, participants will learn about the history and chemistry of indigo, build a dye vat, and learn how to produce blue on fabric. Participants will also learn about overdyeing on fabrics made in the previous two classes (or fabric provided), producing a whole rainbow of colors. All supplies are provided. In this class, participants will transform a flat piece of fabric into a lovely, billowy quilt. Learn how to construct layers of a quilt, how to design a quilt, and how to finish a quilt. November 24, 2019 from 2 to 4 p.m. Come learn about the fascinating world of natural fabric dyes and quilted fabric techniques. Classes from June-November may be taken individually or as a series. Embellish your quilt with thread that has been dyed with plants. In this session, participants will discover and learn a Japanese technique called sashimi, as well as some European styles of embellishment. Woodcarving: Kolrosing- Woodcarving and Coloring- July 20 Woodcarving: Kolrosing- Woodcarving and Coloring- July 20

Join Ty Thornock, a green woodworker from Persia, Iowa, for a day-long course to learn the basics of knife skills and woodcarving using locally-sourced wood (mostly fallen branches and trees that are removed). This class will focus on kolrosing, an old method of giving fine line surface decoration to wood. Weather permitting, the course will be held in the Lithuanian Sculpture Garden, a fantastic, natural setting. Picture is representative of, but not identical to the course project.
