September 30, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. The natural dyes that Ashton Page will introduce you to in this workshop are some of the most versatile and longest used dyes in the world and knowing them is a great asset to any dyer. In this workshop we will be using quebracho roja (Schinopsis balansae) to produce soft, blushy pinks on pieces you can take home. Natural Fabric Dyeing: Sappanwood - October 21 Natural Fabric Dyeing: Sappanwood - October 21

October 21, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. Ashton Page will introduce participants to Brazilwood (Paubrasilia echinata), a hardwood tree long used for its red dyes. In this workshop we will be working with Sappanwood, Brazilwood's less endangered cousin, to make a whole spectrum of reds to use on your very own wall hanging. You'll see in real time how pH affects the natural world through color changes. Participants will also work on a collaborative piece using a rice paste to resist the color change from pH experiments. Natural Fabric Dyeing: Indigo - November 25 Natural Fabric Dyeing: Indigo - November 25

November 25, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. Ashton Page will introduce participants to the illustrious and alluring Indigo (Indigofera tinctoria), a dye with an interesting history and intense color. Learn about the history, chemistry, and artistry of indigo dye and use a Japanese fabric resisting technique called shibori to make patterns on your fabric. Participants will also work on a collaborative piece that will be showcased at the garden. All supplies are provided.
